HOME OF THE SCOUSERS

Liverpool

Capital of the North

Liverpool is one of the most vibrant, diverse & cultural cities in the UK. Established in 1207 as a borough in the county of Lancashire, by the late 17th century it became a significant town. In 1699 the Port of Liverpool became heavily involved in the Atlantic slave trade, with the first slave ship departing that year. As years progressed the port became an importer of cotton, soon becoming a major departure point for English & Irish emigrants to North America. The 19th century the city rose to global economic importance, being at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution which built the first intercity railway. In 2008 it was selected as the European Capital of Culture.

The city is the home of the biggest stars in entertainment & culture. Including bands like The Beatles, Dead or Alive, a Flock of Seagulls etc. Entertainers such as Cilla Black, Tom Baker, Jodie Comer. As well as writers, poets, sport legends, business people, scientists & many more.

It's England's only UNESCO City of Music having produced many notable musical acts & for releasing more UK number one hit singles than anywhere else in the world. However the city is split between two Premier League football teams Everton FC "The Toffees" & Liverpool FC "The Reds".
