THE HOME OF APHRODITE
Paphos
Mediterranean Hot Spot
Paphos is a southwest coastal city in Cyprus and is the capital of Paphos District. It's the fourth-largest city in the country after Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca with a population of just over 35,960 in 2018.
The town's name is linked to the myth following the goddess Aphrodite. Paphos was the son of Pygmalion, who was devoted to the cult. Take a stroll down to the harbour to see the statue of Aphrodite, to see where the Greeks agreed the site to which she rose from the sea.
In 1980 Paphos was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, for its ancient religious importance as well as its ancient architecture & mosaics. It was also selected in 2017 as European Capital of Culture alongside Aarhus.
Today, Paphos is a tourist haven with many visiting the Kato area. Its clear blue water & sandy beaches make for a relaxing getaway. The history is unmatched if you love to over indulge, or explore local restaurants for the most euthenics Mediterranean dishes.
